Apprenticeship units

Apprenticeship units are short, flexible training courses in critical skill areas for existing employees aged 19 and over.

They are designed to help businesses up-skill staff who are looking to learn new skills or need to adapt to a changing job role.

You can use apprenticeship units to quickly respond to business needs, such as filling skills gaps.

There are a range of apprenticeship units across key sectors:

  • AI Leadership – AI Strategy and Opportunity
  • AI Leadership – AI Adoption, Procurement and Governance
  • AI Leadership – AI Delivery and Organisational Transformation
  • Battery manufacturing
  • Electric vehicle charging point installation and maintenance
  • Electrical fitting and assembly
  • Mechanical fitting and assembly
  • Permanent modular building assembly
  • Solar PV installation and maintenance
  • Welding - mechanised

Cost

Apprenticeship units are fully funded for non-levy paying employers. Levy payers can use their levy funds to pay for apprenticeship units. If you're a levy payer and exhaust your funds, you’ll move into co-investment. The co-investment rate is currently 5% and will increase to 25% from August 2026 for new starts. Your responsibilities

You'll need to:

  • identify the skills your business needs and choose the right training
  • work with your training provider to plan delivery around your operations and to agree the appropriate assessment approach
  • give employees dedicated time to take part in training
  • confirm when employees have successfully completed their training and when the skills test has been passed
